In July, the Maryland Board of Public Works approved $1.05 million in funding for expansion of the Nature Center Complex, as well as site improvements, at Janes Island State Park in Somerset County.
The project will be overseen by the Department of General Services (DGS) and involves the design and construction of an indoor, air-conditioned dining area, which will be built as an addition to the Nature Center Complex.
Other site improvements include renovations to the camping registration area and the camp store, and construction of a new fish cleaning station.
Janes Island State Park is located near Crisfield on the Eastern Shore and managed by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources.
The park is surrounded by the Chesapeake Bay and divided into two distinct areas. The main land portion of the park has campsites, a conference center, picnic areas, pavilions, boat ramp, and marina.
The island portion of the park includes more than 2,900 acres of saltmarsh, 30 miles of water trails, and miles of isolated pristine beaches.
